Question: I returned from a 10 day trip to Hong Kong 11days ago, I have vertigo which is getting worse, today I just want to lie down and not move my head as I feel very nauseated when I do. Do I need to see my GP.? I have no other symptoms, I take Ramipril 10mgs to control BP.

Brief Answer:
Good to see a doctor...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

From what I understand you developed vertigo immediately following your trip and the vertigo is getting worse today.

Vertigo is a very common symptom that follows after a long trip. Sometimes a flight travel can cause pressure disturbances within the middle ear resulting in vertigo. However those settle down in a few hours and rarely lasts beyond 24 hours. Since it's getting worse after 10 days, it needs to be looked into. Ear pathology such as congested middle ear, ear drum trauma and eustachian tube dysfunction needs to be ruled out. Occasionally vertigo is caused by systemic disorders like infection, electrolyte disturbances and so on. Those needs to be ruled out too.

Accordingly in my opinion, you should see your GP. If deemed necessary, he/she will refer you to an ENT surgeon for examination and hearing test.

Hope this answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
