Can I Take Pseudoephedrine Along With Ramipril?

I just started taking ramipril for high bp, and also have severely blocked ears (for the past 2 weeks). I m waiting to see an ENT. My doctor suggested trying a nondrowsy antihistamine, and i found one with pseudonephidrine which already seems to be clearing the congestion. Is it safe to take these meds at the same time?

Hi,

It's always best to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any new medication, especially if you're already taking another medication. In general, there is a potential interaction between pseudoephedrine and Ramipril that can increase blood pressure, so it's important to be cautious.

Pseudoephedrine is a kind of decongestant. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nasal passages, which in turn increases blood pressure. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that helps to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Therefore, taking these medications together could potentially have an opposing effect on blood pressure and may not be safe for everyone.

Your doctor is likely aware of the potential interaction between these two medications and may have prescribed them based on your specific health needs. However, it's still important to inform your doctor if you're taking any new medications or experiencing any adverse effects. They may suggest alternative treatments or adjust your dosage accordingly.

In the meantime, if you're experiencing severe ear blockage, you may want to consider seeing a doctor sooner rather than later, as it could be a sign of an underlying condition that requires medical attention.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
