Suggest Treatment For Upper Right Abdominal Pain While Having Gallbladder Inflammation

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: I am a 50 yr old female. I am having a colonoscopy & endoscopy done tomorrow to rule out ulcers (and confirm that gallbladder inflammation etc) is the cause of my persistent upper right abd pain. The prep so far (pico salax + 2 dulcolax) has made me quite nauseated with abd pain and I am also quite weak. I have consumed more than the recommended liquids. Do I have to take the 2nd dose in full tomorrow morning or can I reduce it all and what can I do re: the abd pain and nausea. I already took tylenol and gravol.

Brief Answer:
As explained and give feedback

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read your history, read the report and understood your concerns.
Noted that you have taken Pico Salax and 2 Dulcolax - for colonoscopy preparation.
It made you nauseated, with pain in abdomen and have weakness.

Please let me know when have you taken the first dose and what is the time now at your place and what is the scheduled time for colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Please continue taking Gravol after a gap of 4 hours if needed.

The idea is to have clear stools for which 2nd dose is needed which is usually repeated after 5 hours.
If your colonoscopy is schedule after noon, you will have to take the 2nd dose in full tomorrow morning. Please see if the bowel movement is clear or not.
Please do not take less dose as it may not clear the bowel fully hindering the colonoscopy results.

You may also please call the Nurse or Assistant if you have any doubts. Please do not take water alone. Recommended clear fluids include any fluid that you can see through (that is 'not red or purple'): sports drinks (e.g. Gatorade†), Pedialyte†, Gastrolyte†, Kool-Aid†, clear broth (chicken, vegetable or beef with no noodles, meat or vegetables), fruit juices (e.g. apple, white (not red) cranberry, white (not purple) grape, tea or coffee (black, sweetened to taste, no milk, cream or soy), clear sodas (e.g. ginger ale), plain Jell-O† (not red or purple), Popsicle† (not red or purple)
These will help you to get rid of weakness.
See how the progress goes through and give me feedback.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

First dose was yesterday at 4:30. Just took second and last dose this morning at 5 am. Test is at 11 am. Hard part is drinking the 1.5 to 2 litres of liquids after taking the picosalax.

Brief Answer:
Take at 15 minutes interval in a quantity that is suitable to you

Detailed Answer:
Yes, I can understand the difficulty.
But this is needed to avoid the fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
You have to take it over 2 hours, means up to 1 liter per hour, you may please take 200 to 250 ml every 15 minutes so that it may not be taxing much.
You can certainly do this way. Do not tax/take too much at one go.
Please follow this principle.
