Suggest Treatment For Upper Respiratory Infection, Cough And Sneezing

Question: Hi. I recently had a upper respiratory infection/sinus (June 10-15) and was given Ciprofloxan 500mgs to treat. I experienced a lot of coughing and sneezing to the point where I was sore from my upper abdominal to my mid back still today. I feel a lot better now. My question is this. I feel a nagging pain right where my gallbladder/upper right abdominal area under my ribcage. It comes and goes when I stand up but once I sit down or lay down it pretty much goes away, its not unbearable or anything more of a annoyance. I actually had a lot of gas due to the consumption of sugar free cough drops and figured it was that but have not used one in the past two days. My question is what could this be?

Brief Answer:
May be GB /lung, pleura/stretched nerve.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Noted the history of URTI, Cipro, severe coughing and sneezing, pains and now worried about the nagging pain in the gall bladder area which comes and goes on standing and as explained by you.

What could this be ::
This can be due to gall bladder inflammation, or problem with liver, lower lung or pleura.
If the Ultrasonography and X-ray chest are done, we can get the probable diagnosis.
Clinical evaluation and examination by a Doctor would help to get to a provable diagnosis.

Another possibility is that the nerves supplying this area can get entrapped due to muscle spasms of the lower chest area due to violent coughing and sneezing.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis and further management..

Hi.
Thanks for your feedback and proper explanation which is self-explanatory.
This is called as costochondritis with inflammation spread to the muscles and tendon nearby.

I would advise you to take a course of an anti-inflammatory medicines like Ibuprofen, oral steroids if you are not diabetic and you will be fine. Please discuss with your Doctor as some medicines need a prescription.

I hope this answer helps you.
