Question: My two year old granddaughter is getting her painful two year old molars as well as having a nasty upper respiratory infection. Is there anything to help her coughing at night and anything to apply topical to the teeth. she is taking the prescribed dose of Tylenol but it isn't touching the hacking cough.

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation would be greatly beneficial.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. It is possible that your child has a viral infection of the respiratory tract (technically known as bronchiolitis). The mainstay of treatment would be steam inhalation. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. Use Nasoclear saline nasal drops in case of nose block. Often such infections are associated with anerobic oral infections and in such a case use of Clenora Gel or other mouth washes should provide relief.

Irrespective of treatment such infections usually last for 5-7 days. You would have to be patient in the meantime. In case the child becomes lethargic be sure to take the child to a doctor.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
