I have had a running nose, cough and congestion for several days, but no fever. What treatment do suggest, especially to stop the running nose and coughing?

Brief Answer: anti histamines. please see below for details Detailed Answer: Hi Mr XXXXXXX You are having an upper respiratorry tract infection. For nose block you can use any decongestant nose drops like otrivin. Instill 3 drops of otrivin in each nostril and follow it up with steam inhalation for 10 minutes. Repeat this procedure 3 times daily for 5 days. For the proper method of instilling otrivin you can read instructions on the crimp. Otrivin is over the counter medicine. You can procure it without prescription. For running nose you will require an antihistamine and for cough some cough suppressant. Also if your symptoms have been present for more than 6 days you may need antibiotics. Penicillin group of antibiotics work best for upper respiratory infections. You will need prescriptions for all the above. Also a chest infection needs to be ruled out. Chest infections can also produce cough.
