Question: I have had mild-intensity tinnitus in one ear continually for about the last 3 yrs. I went to an ear, nose and throat specialist and she informed me nothing can be done about the problem. I'm 64, and was told the inner ear cilia degenerate with the normal aging process. Anything I can do?

Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Tinnitus is still an elusive symptom and needs in-depth clinical evaluation, examination and investigations to know the probable cause.
Since you are 64 years old male started tinnitus 3 years ago, it would be interesting to know the what caused tinnitus in the beginning.
Please try to remember/recollect the day-one of the incidence:
Was there any cold?
Was there any trauma direct or indirect like:
exposure to loud sounds,
accident,
shooting of the blood pressure
Flu or cold
or anything that started the tinnitus?
Were/are there any associated symptoms like headache, giddiness, sleeplessness?
What is the nature of sound that you experience?
Any increasing factors?
Any decreasing factors?
Any medical problems like hypertension, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or anything?
Any investigations done? Id yes, please post the reports.
Please provided any further information that you think is related or even not related to tinnitus for me to assist you better in diagnosis and possible management.
