Suggest Treatment For Tingling Sensation On The Left Side Of Body

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Jun 2015
Question: About 14 months ago, i began to experience a tingling sensation (similar to when a body part goes to sleep and is waking up - tingling, etc.) over the entire left half of my body. It literally involved the left half of my nose, lips, etc. I underwent an extensive battery of tests including CAT, MRI, Carotid Ultrasound, emg, etc. and all were negative. The tingling episodes continued (usually every few days) for about 6 months and then stopped entirely. For the past several months, my left hamstring has been tight (I'm a weightlifter and cyclist) and, recently I have developed light twitching in my left calf and hamstring. I have experienced no loss in strength nor any other symptoms that seem to be typical of MS or ALS but, as you might expect, I'm quite anxious about all of this. I'm a 57 year old male in excellent physical condition, quite active with lifting, cycling (about 100 miles per week), golf, fishing, etc. The neurologist and cardiologist told me last year that they didn't see any cause for concern...your thoughts?

Brief Answer:
I do not see any reason to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the problem and the first thing that crossed my mind was multiple sclerois (MS). But since the symptoms have disappeared completely, I do not see any reason to get concerned. Just continue with a healthy lifestyle as you have, and things should be fine. The cardiologist and neurologist are right about their opinion.

What about the stiffness in the left hamstring, quad and calf along with the muscle twitching? The stiffness has been there for several months and may be progressing slightly...the twitching began a few weeks ago. I also experience a "buzzing" in my left leg similar to that of a cell phone vibrating in my pocket.

I've yet to receive an answer to my follow-up question (10 hours ago).

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are explainable

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for not being able to answer back earlier.

MS could be related to the twitching of the muscles as well as the buzzing in your leg. However, hamstring tightness is a common finding in many individuals. You need to consult a physical therapist who could show you some simple exercises which could help in releasing the tightness. Hot compress would provide relief.

Hope that helps.
