default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: My parotid duct is swollen (I believe), however I feel no pain. I don't have any swelling in the gland itself. Wondering what the issue might be. Seeing a dentist on Monday. Thanks

Brief Answer:
seems to be normal

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having swollen parotid duct.

As such, parotid duct starts from parotid gland and ends at parotid papilla between cheek and gum, opposite to upper 2nd molar tooth. I do not find any abnormality related to the duct, except nicotine patches over upper lips and inner surface of cheek.

No pain, no swelling suggests no signs of inflammation. You need to ignore the issue.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

So, what about the small nodule presented in the photo? You're saying it's not in the location of the parotid duct, but it's there nonetheless. Do u have an opinion as to what it might be?

normal mucosal tag.

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

It could be healed morsicatio buccarium (chronic cheek biting and chronic cheek chewing, occurs by chronic irritation or injury to the buccal mucosa) or normal mucosal tag.

Do not worry. it is a common and non dangerous one.

Hope, I have answered your query.
