Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lymph Nodes On The Body

Question: Hi. I am a 64 year old woman. I have been followed for thyroid nodules for 4 years. I am now going to have a biopsy on one dominant nodule (1.1cm). i also have noticed two small lymph nodes in my abdomen are raised--I noticed this about 6 weeks ago. Neither is big (<1cm), one is movable, the other is not; neither give me any pain. I have had another lymph node right at the bottom of my sternum that is also swollen: this has been there for about 8 years; it is quite large, 1.1cm, and my doctor at the time told me not to worry. As I was reading about symptoms for different types of thyroid cancer, I noticed that this could be one of them. My Question: should I inform my doctor immediately? I am due to have a biopsy within the next 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be lymphnodes.

Detailed Answer:
Good morning.
Good to hear from you again.
Let me tell that, thyroid cancers hardly ever spread to abdomen. Besides, abdominal lyphnodes are very very deep and can not be felt by hands on the top of skin. The lumps which you are feeling is unlikely to be lymphnode, but rather likely to be either a small lipoma or neurofibroma. The most comon lymphnode affected by thyroid cancer is the cervical lymphnodes which are situated by the sides of neck. Ultrsound would pick that.

Please do not worry. First of all, you havent had an FNAC diagnosis yet. Thyroid cancers are not common and less than 5% of nodles have cancers in it. Stay relaxed. However you may meet a doctor to get the lums in abdomen examined, so that you will be more comforable.

Binu

Brief Answer:
Not to worry

Detailed Answer:
My pleasure. I can certainly understand the anxiety you are having now. Please stay relaxed. As i mentioned above, thyroid cancers are rare and it has excellent prognosis compared to other cancers. I would appreciate if you could let me know the fna results once it is available.

In the meanwhile, please do not google about thyroid cancer. It will only increase your anxiety. All details which you get in google may not be genuine.

I would recomend to listen to some nice music . you can get so many nice relaxation videos in Youtube. Go for a nice walk in a park and talk to few good friends.

Wish you good health. Have a great weekend.

Regards
Binu
