Question: Something bit me about 5hrs ago. Hand swollen and streaked up to elbow with joint pain in the same area. What to do??

Allergic reaction to unknown bite

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for using HCM.

The swelling you have developed in your hand is an allergic reaction to the unknown bite you had.
You have done the right thing by taking benadryl.

In addition do the following -

1. Please examine the bitten part and if you happen to see any stinger, remove it.
2.Wash the hand with soap and water.
3. Apply cold compress
4. Take tylenol or advil for pain relief.

Report to ER in the following situations -
1. If the pain and swelling are persistent or worsening
2. If there is breathing difficulty
3. If there is dizziness
4. If the lips and eye lids get swollen
