Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Testicle

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: My left testicle is swollen. It happened about two months ago. There is no pain. My doctor, a urologist, had me take a scrotal ultrasound. It did not reveal any growth benign or cancerous. The report said it could be some infection. So my doctor prescribed Levofloxacin 500 mg, one tablet a day. I took it for two weeks. Didn't improve. Now he has prescribed same antibiotic, only 750mg. Any suggestion? Thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
Are you in pains?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I will like to know if you are in pains or not. Also, do you have any fever I would have loved to see your doctor observe a little longer after the negative ultrasound findings and the first round of antibiotics. This is because we have no idea about what is going on. However, we are at least confident that the most concerning possible causes would have been investigated and addressed already. After this antibiotics, stop and let's gather more details especially on the evolution of symptoms before rushing to make hasty decisions which would not help anyone. Beside, levofloxacine is such a great drug to treat any infection of the testicles that it not bringing any much change should have called for thorough re-evaluation and put any possible infection as a secondary thought and not another successive antibiotics treatment. I will also recommend a urine culture to be carried out.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
