Question: Hi,
My calf muscle becomes stiff and pains a lot some times. It happens all of a sudden, especially, early in the morning while waking up. When I try to slowly press the area and relax, it subsides slowly. It wouldn't last long for more than 10-15 minutes XXXXXXX
Wanted to know what might be the problem.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Vitamin deficiency, Electrolyte imbalance, Stress

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

Having stiff and painful muscles in the calves at 15 minute intervals could indicate muscle spasm. This is occasional tightening of the calf muscles causing pain. This could be due to Vitamin deficiency, Electrolyte imbalance, Stress and lack of exercise commonly.

Kindly follow these precautions

Drink 1 to 2 litres of water daily. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Apply hot water bag to the painful regions whenever you get the spasm. Wear soft and comfortable footwear. Walk daily for 45 minutes. Get 6 to 8 hours of sleep daily.

Perform these activities and note the improvement you achieve with this regimen.

If the pain does not subside, or could be that you are suffering from Electrolyte imbalance for which you should get tested for Serum calcium, Serum Vitamin D, Serum Potassium and other investigations.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
