Question: Hi! I seem to have XXXXXXX a red rash on mu thighs, lower back and it is spreading to lower legs, arms and shoulders. I have had it for a few days; it's not really itchy all of the time. My concern is that family is coming to visit, could I have something contagious? Thank you

Good morning! Thank you for your answers. In reply to your questions: 1. I have had the rash for a week; 2. Nothing new eaten or soap, cream, meds; 3. I am lactose intolerant; 4. This is the first time for the rash; 5. I will try to take a photo & send, but in comparison to the photos from the Mayo Clinic, it most closely resembles the chicken pox rash; 6. I am a widow, living alone, so no one else has it; 7. Nothing recent.
I await your guidance. I am particularly concerned since my family will be soon arriving for the weekend(celebrate my birthday) and I have a 19 month old grandson. My hope is that I am not contagious, help!
Sincerely, XXXX

Brief Answer:
most probably allergic rash

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back with the answers. I have gone through them. Sorry for a delayed response. It would have been better if you had shared an image as well. Chickenpox usually occurs at a younger age. There is a possibility that it could be an allergic rash. If i were your treating dr then i would have advised following things:

- Cetirizine one at night for 5 days.
- wash your bedding & clothing thoroughly.
- Try not to scratch rash else it might leave scar.

Hopefully you will see improvement in 3-4 days BUT if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital & get an appointment for a "Consultant Dermatologist" for examination of rash followed by prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
