Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat While Having Sinusitis

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Dec 2016
Question: I have sinusitis
Had a celestone and decadron shot yesterday which has helped significantly by opening up my head
Taking Amoxcillin 625 mg 3/day
Head is open, and draining down throat
Sore throat may be developing, although the amoxicillin may be helping...I don't know
I have a supply of augmentin....which I have not used....
It is not strep throat.....
I am using nasal saline as well, multiple times each day to wash out the sinuses.
Not in my chest....just steady drainage...worse at night.

Brief Answer:
basically the same as amoxicillin but can use

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Augmentin is a combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. The clavulinic acid reduces potential resistance in the body to amoxicillin but it is not an antibiotic itself.

This means that you can use the augmentin instead of the amoxicillin since they are essentially the same medication (difference is that the augmentin is likely more effective since any bacteria causing infection, is less likely allergic to it).

The sore throat may not be related to infection but due to the drainage at the back of the throat.
Post nasal drainage irritates or inflames the back of the throat causing pain.

You also consider the use of an anti inflammatory pain killer to help with any discomfort eg naproxen, cataflam or ibuprofen.
A decongestant may also help as well

These are over the counter medications

I hope this helps , feel free to ask any other questions
