Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Blisters On Tongue

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Oct 2015
Question: I have a very sore throat on one side and have developed blisters/bumps on my tongue on the same side that are extremely painful. I saw a doctor on Thursday and was given a shot of rocephin and a steroid shot, and oral amoxicillin, but the pain is still pretty bad and I don't feel well. What do I need to do?

Dr. Sheikh,

Thank you so much for responding! The sore throat started Wednesday of last week, was so bad on Thursday, I went to a walk in clinic. Pain with swallowing worsened throughout Friday. No fever, some pain in ear and face on same side (I was thinking it started out as a sinus infection), has lessened a lot. Slight chest congestion. Dry cough. Pain swallowing at onset, has let up some since Thursday. The bumps are not white colored, nor do they seem to have a head. The bumps are directly in contact with the side of the throat/tonsil area that is sore.

Have taken generic cold medication that contains acetaminophen, phenylephrine HCl, destromethorphan, and guaifenesin. Am on Amoxicillan 875 mg twice a day; am also taking tessalon pearls and gargling with biotene, which is an OTC mouth sore rinse and ibuprophen. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thank you for your time.
