Suggest Treatment For Sleeplessness While Having Asthma

default
Posted on Sat, 2 Sep 2017
Question: My asthma has acted up the last few weeks. I am seeing the pulmonologist tomorrow. But for the last three nights, I have not been able to sleep. I tried melatoniim and other natural sleep aids, but none helped. The first two nights I could feel a breath shortage and that contributed to keeping me awake. But last night there was no breath shortage and I still could not sleep. Any recommendations? Maybe steam prior to bed to loosen mucus?

Brief Answer:
use nabulizer not just before sleeping

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in HCM

I can understand your concern

Yes it might happen in asthmatic patients to be sleepless even after the situation is calm down.

I have some patients in my clinical practice that have encountered the same situation like you are.

Don't worry in my opinion if you were my patient i would recommend you to use the nebulizer with Ventoline even if you are not feeling breathlessness. It may cause tachycardia in some patients which might be the cause of your sleeplessness .

There is not no direct relationship between using nebulizer and sleeping. Probably it is the activation of the asthma that jas disequilibrate your sleep.

So use the nebulizer with Ventoline not just before sleeping but 2-3 hours before going to bed and it will help you more and without probably side effects and you can take also a tranquilizer like Xanax half tablet (only if you are feeling no difficulty in breathing ) and you will feel better tomorrow.

Take care and feel free to ask me again
