Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In Left Calf Muscle

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Mar 2016
Question: i did some very light jumping exercises yesterday and felt a sharp pain in my left calf muscle. Today it still hurts. It hurts when I touch it and a sharp pain when i walk. Im taking Ciprofloxacin twice a day 250mg. Could this be the reason? What are my options or treatments? Should I stop the cipro?

Thank you for answering. I just wanted to make sure; you recommended Ranitidine. But when i searched it on the Internet it says its for stomach acid? Will this also help my calf muscle?

Brief Answer:
Muscle strain. Ciprofloxacin can cause tendon ruptures so avoid.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

It is quite possible that your are suffering from acute calf muscle strain due to the unaccustomed exercise.

It would be best to avoid taking Ciprofloxacin which has risk of causing tendon rupture. Do apply ice, keep the limb elevated over 2 pillows, take Tablet Diclofenac and Thicolchicoside combination twice a day for 5 days after meals and Tablet Ranitidine 150mg twice a day for 5 days before meals. This will help relax the tight strained muscle. You shall recover in 7 to 10 days.

Eat plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables and drink 1-2 litres of water daily. You can apply crepe bandage from your foot till your knee for support.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Brief Answer:
Ranitidine is antacid to curb acidity caused by pain killer Diclofenac

Detailed Answer:
When you take Diclofenac or any pain killer, it can cause acidity which is why I recommended you take an antacid tablet as well to avoid gastritis symptoms.

The Diclofenac and Thicolchicoside will help your calf muscle. Also apply liniment if possible. It's great for muscular pain.

Avoid strenuous activity, jogging, running of climbing stairs till you're better.
