Suggest Treatment For Severe Vomiting Caused By Acid Reflux

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Feb 2016
Question: lately I have been waking up on the verge of vomiting. I never actually vomit, but the feeling that i am going to is what actually wakes me up...I wake up to stop myself from doing it. There is no nausea or symptoms after I wake up.

Similar things have happened with a feeling of stopping breathing (If I don't wake up and force myself to breathe I will die), and also a feeling that my heart is stopping.

These are distressing and impacting my sleep!

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for being on HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Waking up by a verge of vomiting is mainly a feature of stomach acid reflux.

It is a condition that is encountered in people that use for a long time drugs that may increase stomach acid production and/or weakening the gastroesophageal sfincter.

Feeling it during sleep is related to body lying position.

It could cause heartburn and associated feelings of difficulty breathing and impression of irregular heart work, but don't worry, neither the heart or breathing will stop.

Those feelings and symptoms are amplified by psychological problems, in your case.

It is necessary to use antacid drugs or proton pump inhibitor drugs, in order to control your symptoms, because there is possibility of progression into GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

Since these are prescription drugs, you should discuss with your primary care Doctor about their use.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Wishing you good health.
