Suggest Treatment For Severe Twitching In The Body While Having Anxiety
Question: Hi, I'm a 57 yr old female with terrible anxiety, depression, bipolar and insomnia. I take Doxepin at night, but I do not sleep more than a few hours. My anxiety is so bad over not sleeping that I've developed a twitch/jerking body movement that is uncontrollable. I am at my wits end. I've tried everything, even prescription sleep meds, nothing works. I try to do relaxation breathing but the twitching does not allow it. Help, I'm desperate!

Presence of twitching, jerks and few hours of sleep despite sleep medications indicate toward incomplete treatment.
In my view following can be done.
1.The dose of doxepin should be increased within permissible limits.I often use upto 200 mg when there is incomplete control on lower dose range.
2. Xanax can be used for time being till the increased dose of doxepin becomes effective. I must acknowledge that it is controlled medication and should be used after discussing with your treating doctor.
3. In case xanax becomes ineffective I will recommend a trial of trazodone 50 mg as a sleeping pill. I often found ggod results even in resistant cases.
