Question: My partner has been experiencing some rectal bleeding for the last few weeks. He just told me about it now. The blood is red, and a significant amount. Is this an emergency? What is the best course to take?

,If he doesn't have other symptoms such as dizziness or skin paleness then this I'd not an emergency. However, he should see proctologist if symptoms persist for more than 3-4 days. In most cases this is caused by hemorrhoids or hard stool and less common by polyps or fissure. But, more serious conditions such as tumors should be ruled out in his age so colonoscopy should be done sooner or later. Wish you good health. Regards
