Posted on Mon, 15 Feb 2016
Question: Hi. Since 9 months I suffer from two protruding discs in upper spine and lower neck. In total agony. Now bedridden and on very high doses of morphine. My age is 60. What are your views about having the operation? I am aware that every op has its risks. But nothing like this one.
Looking forwards hearing from you.

Brief Answer:
Needs disc decompression and discectomy

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With 9 months disc protrusion history not responding to conventional therapies, i am afraid decompressive surgery is your only option here. With expertise of a good neurosurgeons , complications are minimal. No worries this procedure is very easy to perform and very minimal complications. Just talk to a neurosurgeon and let them decide what is best for you. usually micro dissections and fenestration surgeries are enough to relieve the symptoms.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan

Brief Answer:
Prolapse and protrusion are the same

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back

Protrusion is a general word and prolapse is technical word used by doctors. Its the same thing. Prolapse however has grades. Protrusion and bulge are first two grades of disc prolapse. Treatment and management remains the same.

I hope it helps.
