Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Knee Due To Osteoarthritis

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Dec 2016
Question: I had surgery earlier in the year, meniscus tear, however my recovery has been severely complicated by osteoarthritis to the extent that my knee = 5 months after surgery is now extremely painful, making it difficult to walk at times, climb stairs, drive a car etc. I have undergone extensive physical therapy and have hit a wall. One problem I have is that I have severe reactions to all major pain medicines to even include advil/aspirin etc. I am 61 years old, have always led an active life and would like an answer as to it would be better to have a complete knee replacement or because of my pain issues have the newer techniques applied - alternative knee replacement. My original injury was work related and am under workmen's compensation ...

Brief Answer:
Knee replecament can be considered.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If your knee is severely painful due to osteoarthritis and even after the surgery the pain level is high so as to hinder your daily activities then you should consider getting a total knee replacement done.
With allergy to most of the pain killers, the only option with you is to take rest and do a hot compress and apply a local analgesic gel for pain relief.
If all these measures are not helping then knee replacement will give you a pain free life.
I hope this answers your query.
