Suggest Treatment For Severe Itchy Palms

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I have had severely itchy palms for several months. Have tried various creams ointments, lotions, etc. Some help temporarily but nothing is clearing it up and it wakes me at night and even hurts. Been to the dermatologist, and she gave me yet another lotion to try that is not helping... what else can I do to help this?

Brief Answer:
dry skin? allergy?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You may be dealing with severe dry skin or allergies.
If it is dry skin then you may need to use a strong lubrication cream like Eucerine and perhaps even putting it on at night then wearing a pair of cotton gloves over it so that it really sinks in to your skin. It is also very important that you drink plenty of water and avoid all caffeine and alcohol since they are very drying.
If it is allergies you could try taking a non-sedating antihistamine like loratadine once daily.
If nothing is working then see your doctor for some blood tests, liver problems or thyroid disorder may be involved.
I hope you get some relief soon,
Dr. Robinson
