Question: I am a normal healthy person with no BP and Diabetes and 55 years of age. (My BP varies between 90 to 100 on the higher side and 60 to 70 on the lower side and it is so since many many years). I am having severe headache problem ( may be migrain ) which is usually ON ONE SIDE OF BACK OF NECK WHERE I CAN FEEL HARDENING OF NERVE/MUSCLE ON THE BACK OF THE NECK DURING HEADACHE. Headache sensation will be upto the top of the head. I am having this problem since last 8 to 10 years and for many years I was taking Saridon/Chrocin headache tablet and as they started yielding no results I have switched to VASOGRAIN since last 2 years. Almost 2 to 4 days in a week I experience headache and after taking Vasograin ( one tablet ) it subsides for that day after 3-4 hours but heaviness in the head continues.
I am diagnosed with Cervical Spondolysis with Disck lesion at C5 and C6 level - not taking any medication for this. I am a very active person and daily jog about 4 to 5 kms, very healthy person. Now a days, after jogging, I start sensing headache attach. Fed up of this. KINDLY ADVISE ME SUITABLE TABLET TO GET RID OF THIS HEADACHE. I HAVE HYPO THYROID AND TAKING 25 MG OF THYROXIN SINCE LAST 14 YEARS AND IT IS NORMAL. My Total cholestral is 215 and LDL is 155 for which taking 1) ROSUTEC 10 MG AND 2) ECOSPRIN 75 MG since last 10 days. While advising, kindly mention medicine brand name so that it is easier to go for it at the medical shop.

HI XXXX

Greeting from Dr. Divakara.P
First of all thanks for choosing Healthcaremagic for posting your query.

Very clearly your problems seems to be due to Migraine and it's frequency is also quite high.

I advise you to take Tablet Sibelium every night for 4-6 months , but since this is a prescription only drug you need to get a prescription from a doctor. As long as you are using this medicines your headache severity and the frequency of headache will come down drastically .

But after 6 months don't stop it , revert back to me and I shall tell you what to do then based on your condition.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.

Thanks for diagnose and prescription. Do I have to take Sibelim 5 mg or 10 mg every night. And in case of migraine attach during day time can I take Paramet or Vasograin, which is better with least side effects or any other drug for this ?.

Brief Answer:
Paramet is better.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Thanks for the follow up.

The dosage has to be decided by your doctor , so kindly consult him once . In my practise I give 10mg every night but don't start the medicine without consulting your doctor.

Vasograin could not be taken frequently as it has got certain serious side effects . Among Vasograin and Paramet , Paramet is more safe but remember the tablet has to be taken at the very onset of the headache. Once headache reaches its peak this tablet shall not be useful.

Hope this information was useful to you.

Sir,
I was browsing various articles in the net regarding Migraine Headache wherein many had suggested that for acute migraine attack, as you said, Vasograin is not a good option for a long period of time as it contains ergotamine which affects blood vessels and like that. For this type of daily attacks, in addition to preventative steps ( like using calcium channel blocker like Selenium, as you had mentioned ), RIZACT ( generic content Rizatriptan ) is better option if we take before the onset of the attack. Will preventive medicine like Selenium and OTC medicine like Rizact for taking before onset, go well in combination ? If, yes, can I discontinue Vasograin and go for Rizact OTC medicine ?

Brief Answer:
They are safe in combination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX.

Welcome back .

You have done a good research and I appreciate you for that. First of all Stop Vasograin , no doubt in that.

As of your query regarding taking Rizact and Sibelium is concerned there is no significant interactions between these two medicines . You can take them both together .

But do know that Rizact should be used for Severe Migarine attacks which are not relieved after taking simple pain medicines like Paramet.

My advise to you is , use Sibelium everyday and use Paramet once you feel the onset of headache . Most of the times Paramet will be sufficient. If in case , in spite of taking Paramet the headache doesn't subside and is increasing in intensity or if the headache starts with severe Intensity in that case you can use Rizact.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .
