default
Posted on Mon, 25 Jul 2016
Question: My six year old complained of headaches yesterday. I do not have a thermometer, but he felt very hot. I gave him ibuprofen, then acetominophen. He felt better last night, but woke up thirsty, with dry heaves, and a fever again. We have been in Canada for a week, travelling from USA.

Brief Answer:
monitor temperature,give acetaminophen when required

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking the query

Fever with nauseating feel can be due to some viral infection leading to gastritis.
In most of the cases viral fever respond well to acetaminophen.Acetaminophen is a safe medication to bring down the temperature.
When taken inadvertently Ibuprofen can cause gastritis so it should be used if fever does not respond to acetaminophen.
Fever itself may cause headache and dehydration.
I would suggest you to monitor the temperature, give acetaminophen if temperature is more than 99.5.Give plenty of fluids and also do tepid sponging as it may help in bringing down the temperature.
Acetaminophen can be given in a dose of 15 mg/kg/dose at an interval of 6 hours. If fever remains high you can also give ibuprofen if remains high.
If fever happens again you can give ibuprofen.
Acetaminophen also helps in headache.
If nausea is significant you may give lansoprazole and ondensetron as advised by physician.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any query.
regards
