Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Acid Reflux
Question: I am 73 asthmatic.
Had bad cough about three weeks ago, went to emergency, coughing every 30 sec, di nebulizer, and Dr gave me prednisone.
My inhalers and singular were not working.
Now I am coughing less, kind of gagging cough when I lean head back or if I am eating trouble swallowing.
By the way I am taking omniprazole for acid reflux.
Using my Nanette Pot daily to drain sinus
Problem I am US citizen in Canada, nearest US doctor in XXXXXXX NY.
Not coughing up much mucus and if I do it is white.
Chest is not tight and not running fever. Have lost 4 or 5 pounds.
Do I let cough, allergies asthma run its course or should I get back to Dr?

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare Magic and thanks for putting up the query
chronic cough with throat irritation is due to nasal allergies. You should take some anti allergic like a combination of levocetrizine and montelukast once daily for atleast 10 days. If the problem still persists then you should definitely get yourself examined by a pulmonologist.
Please tell me what problem are you having while swallowing like difficulty in swallowing or you cough while eating or there is regurgitation?
Follow up with the required information so that I can suggest you better.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available at prescription only.
Take care
Thanks and regards

Thank you Dr.
I am taking Monoluckstat, I'll try levtetetrozine.
Coughing while eating may be from not chewing my food very well, you see I am missing upper molars. However when I irritate my throat with something like bug spray, or some strong aresol I really start coughing so allergies asthma must be culprit. It my cough, is more reaction or spasm, to irritant.

Hi
Thanks for the information.
It seems to be allergic cause for cough from the history.
Take a combination of levocetrizine and montelukast once daily and steam inhalation.
Use mask while using any irritant sprays.
It would be better if you can take semisolids and liquids.
Improperly chewed food might be causing laryngeal spasms.
Wish you get well soon.
You are always welcome with any further questions.
Thanks and regards
