Question: My mother is 78 years old. She has trouble walking because of a broken hip and bad knees. She is visiting and two days ago she became constipated and she has back pain, strong back pain. She says her stool is beige and has red color in it. Not poop, just some slimy beige stuff. No apetite either.

Brief Answer:
Is she on any medication?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I will like to know what pain medications your mom is currently on. If she is on opioids such as morphine, she would need to take lactulose on regular basis. In addition to the above measures, increase fruits, fluids and fiber intake would be of great help in helping alleviate the constipation.

If drugs fail, we may have no further option but administer a one time enema to help start all over again the regular bowel movements.

I wish you well and keep me posted.
