Question: Hi, so 6 weeks ago I had protected sex and unprotected oral from a girl. Im a 23 year old male. Lately ive had these rashes/pains around my anus, I cant see any lesions and the rashes/pains seem to come and go which is quite odd. I havent had an STI screening yet but I will be within the next week or so. My question is do you think these recurring rashes could be STI or herpes related? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Herpes is less likely if there is no burning and cluster of rashes

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. In out earlier discussion, I remember that you were having flu symptoms. I hope you have made a complete recovery from the flu and are feeling better except for the pains around your rashes.

2. I want to clarify if there are any skin blisters in the region because you have mentioned rashes and written that there are no lesions. Herpes usually causes significant pain and burning and clusters of rashes over the skin. If the pain is not intensely burning or there are no cluster rashes then herpes in unlikely.

3. Recurring pains with itching around the anus can be found in fungal infection. This is not necessarily a STI but being in cold weather with increased sweat formation in your anal region and not washing your genital region daily can give rise to fungal infections. Initially the area is itching and becomes painful with skin changes. If no skin reddening or burning and itching is there then fungal infection is unlikely.

4. If you observe clean genital hygiene and there are no skin lesions and the rashes are doubtful then it is probably because of your anxiety.

5. Please get tests for STI done now because it is six weeks from the event. A negative report will give you peace of mind.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
