Suggest Treatment For Persistent Temporal Lobe Seizures

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: I had temporal lobe seizures for 4 years. I thought I was going insane because I felt so weird all the time. I believe they caused brain damage. I am extremely depressed, lost my feelings . Is there any testing that can be done or a way to help? I had an MRI but the scan was normal. Based on previous correspondence with the neurologist I believe the neuronal damage, "fried circuits " is what has happened to my brain from years of untreated temporal lobe seizures. Will this damage show up on an MRI? The damage cannot be treated unless it can be seen. Please help. I do not feel hunger, emotion and could (if I let myself and didn't have responsibilities) lay all day and night feeling nothing. It is neurological not psychological . I know my body and there is no pill that will fix this. Please tell me these "fried circuits" can be seen by a doctor

Brief Answer:
MRI with Seizure Protocol is needed. Treatment will be based on MRI Finding

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J XXXXXXX Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, and I am here to help you. I have read your question with care and understand that you have had Temporal Lobe Seizures for 4 years.

Let me explain you a bit about brain and fits
A Part of Brain can stop functioning for two reasons
1. Structural Damage
2. No Structural Damage, but function alone stops

I will give you an example of your watch
1.
Your watch is working normally. Now, Assume a heavy weight falls over it and the watch is broken to pieces. It will stop Functioning. Whatever you do, you cannot make it work normally again because the parts are damaged
2.
Your watch is working normally. Now, if falls down and you see that the hands are struck. Now, if you shake them a bit, they will start functioning normally because in this small fall, the parts were not damaged

Same way
Your Brain can stop functioning for two reasons
1. Structural Damage
2. Function alone stops

So
Your Symptoms (do not feel hunger, emotion and could lay all day and night feeling nothing) can be due to
1. Structural Damage to Brain
2. Just a brief Stoppage of Functions

Now you have the following questions
1. Is there any testing that can be done or a way to help?
2. Will this damage show up on an MRI?

"MRI Brain" is not just one investigation. Actually it is a spectrum of sequences. There are special Sequences that visualise Temporal Lobe. These form a Seizure Protocol. So, If you undergo a MRI Brain with Seizure Protocol with Emphasis on Temporal Lobes, you can see whether there is damage to your Temporal Lobe or not

Now
If we find any structural damage to the brain in the MRI Images, we will have to treat "fried circuits" accordingly
But
If there is no structural damage to the brain in MRI, it means that you are having a very simple problem and that can be treated quite easily with few tablets

Hope you found the answer helpful.

I KNOW there is structural damage but if it doesn't show up how can it be treated? I don't think all structural damage shows up?I am really scared. What if nothing helps? I am dead inside . I died when this happened. It is structural. I know my body. It is really scary. I have already had an MRI but nothing showed

Brief Answer:
If it does not show up in Seizure Protocol of MRI, then there is no structural damage..

Detailed Answer:

Question 1
>

If it does not show up in Seizure Protocol of MRI, then there is no structural damage. It is only functional damage

>
You must have had T1 Axial, T2 Axial and Coronal FLAIR Section
You need to do MRI with Seizure Protocols for know full details

If it does not show up in Seizure Protocol of MRI, then there is no structural damage. It is only functional damage and it is easy to treat

Would "fried circuits " show up? I am running into this now . The doctor saying there is no structural damage when I know there is. I have tried many antidepressants which don't help at all. My brain feels smaller inside if that makes any sense. So what else can be tried to treat and what if nothing works? What kind of tablets are you referring to? It is my belief the heavy object crushed the watch and it can't be fixed but I can't prove it.What about stem cell injection into the brain - like the recent treatments that have helped stroke victims

Brief Answer:
First we need to do MRI Seizure Protocols

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam

First and foremost we need to do MRI Seizure Protocols and see

1. If there is structural damage
2. if so, extent and nature of damage

our further treatment can be based on MRI findings

this is the proper way forward
