Question: I have a skin itching problem from many years. Until recently the problem was only with the legs but recently it is spreading to the other parts as well. I have consulted the skin specialist before, fungal and allergy test were negative and I have been told that it could be a dry skin eczema.

Just to give you little background about the problem. I have this itching problem more than 10 years now. But it was restricted only to legs and below the knee. I was using Saltophic ointments whenever it was itching. Later I stopped it knowing it contains steroids.

Last year 24th July, 2014, I did a detailed checkup in Manipal to check the the fungal infection and also the allergy test, result was negative. I have attached both the reports for your reference. I have been told that it could be because of dry skin Eczema and ointment with very mild steroids are given.

But from past few months I can feel the itching in thighs, hands and some other parts of the body. I have uploaded the images of the rashes for your reference.
Also, as per my observations, itching starts with small watery bubbles which appears together in an area and starts itching. I have a bad habit of using hot water to reduce the itching which I think making the condition even worst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome back.
I have completely read your query.
I have seen the attached photographs also.
As per details, it seems that you are suffering from a condition called Atopic dermatitis. It is characterised by generalised dryness of skin associated with itch. It is associated with recurrent itchy rash over body varying from fluid filled lesions to lichenified rash. It has multifactorial etiology with various allergens acting as offending agents. The allergen may be dust, dirt, any infection like EBV , CMV infection, autoimmune, or any foo etc.
It may start at any age. Usually thete is personal or family history of asthma also
In such case, I prefer to advise liberal application of moisturiser over whole body multiple times a day.
On rashes, mild to moderate potency steroid cream is advised depending on the rash.
Antihistaminics like levocetrizine also help.
You should use lukewarm water for bathing.
Avoid any synthetic clothing or accessories.
You can share my opinion with your treating doctor.
I hope I am able to solve your query.
Take care.
