Question: From around 2-3 months my father is suffering from cough and irritation in throat.
On contacting a physician 2-3 times always he got the same reply and medication saying that it's effect of weather change. Medicines prescribed were azithromycin, ecobion and a cough syrup. For the period he uses these medicines things seem to be fine. Even use of cough syrup helps reducing the regular coughing but its been a long time and i would like to know if dry cough and pertain this long. Are there any other possibilities that i should be worried for?
He is perfectly healthy other than this problem. His coughing sounds like dry cough to me.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Dry cough persisting longer time after sore throat is a common problem and usually anti allergics do not help.
Please get his chest examined from a chest physician and if chest has some findings of allergy, an inhaler will solve the problem, but if the chest is normal on auscultation, use of mucolytic with proton pump inhibitors along with steam will be helpful.
If there is fever, expectoration and loss of appetite and weight, then he should undergo a blood test- erythrocyte sedimentation rate and chest xray PA view.
Regular intake of steam and avoidance of dust, cold dry environment and oily, spicy and junk food should help.
Feel free ask another query.
