Question: I am currently being treated for a perennial cyst. I am on antibiotics and also have an antibiotic topical cream that I put on three times a day.. Along with three times a day sheet compressor... Today my scrotum is swollen a little bit.. I am sure it is probably due to the liquid in the syst.
My question is does this pose any threat to my testicles.

Brief Answer:
No threat unless the infection gets severe.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

This will not pose any threat to your testicles.
The testicles are wrapped around by a very tough capsule called Tunica albuginea of testis. This is fibrous and very tough structure to save the testis in this regard.

Yet as a precaution, get the cyst well treated, as the edema is increasing; consult a Surgeon to review your disease, condition and treatment.

I hope this answer helps you.

So do you think it will be okay if I wait until Monday to get in touch with my doctor as obviously he doesn't work on Sunday... I am NOT in really any pain besides the pressure of the cyst itself.. He also gave me some pain medication for that. He did ask me to let him know how things were going and if I needed him to he would set an appointment for me with my surgeon. I would like to avoid going to the emergency room if possible.

Brief Answer:
if there is no increase in swelling / pain ..

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your feedback.
You may wait if the swelling / pain does not progress.
Please get an appointment with the Surgeon as this is the area with some potential spaces, which if opened-up / got dissected can spread the infection pretty fast.
Do not apply pressure dressings at all. Let it be just a loose support.
Take the Medicines and pain-killers regularly if it is like Ibuprofen or so as they have anti-inflammatory properties too.
Take Bed-rest.

If possible post a photograph of the condition. Helps me a lot to comment upon. You can upload it or you can send it at YYYY@YYYY and address it to my name: Dr T Chandrakant.

In your last answer you said potential spaces what did you mean by that...? My scrotum has swollen a little bit more most of the fluid seems to be toward the bottom of the scrotum.. But I still have no pain in my scrotum or testicles. It is 10:15 p.m. Here and I am going to call my doctor the first thing in the morning. Should I be putting ice on my scrotum or will that not help at all?

Brief Answer:
Ice will not help.

Detailed Answer:
Potential spaces means the area under the skin which gives it the mobility so that you can pull out the skin , glide over the underlying muscles or structures. These are held together by loose tissues and helps us , the Surgeons for easy dissection as a good part, but as a bad part - once the edema fluid , infected fluid or pus can also dissect through these spaces with ease and allow the local spread of the infection / pus; hence the needs to let out the pus in incision at the earliest if needed and thought by the surgeon.
I hope this clear your query.

The swelling is spread in this way, most of the fluid seems to be at the bottom of the scrotum due to gravitational forces. The absence of the pain suggests the pressure within is less.
Yes, call and visit the Doctor the first thing in the morning, insist for examination by the Surgeon. It is better that you do not take anything orally (after midnight) till you are seen by a Doctor / Surgeon so that if surgery is required you are already prepared. This saves time. If Surgery is not required, you may please continue the treatment as advised.

Please do not put ice on the scrotum since you do not have pain. That may not help at this stage. Continue the medicines properly as advised.

I hope these answers help you, please feel free to ask more if you need to and you may please rate this answer before you close this discussion thread.
