Suggest Treatment For Painful Swelling In Toe Post Injury

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Nov 2015
Question: I feel like a pansy, kind of. I hit my toe (pinky) a week ago, I truly thought I had just jammed it. It is now still swollen (the toe down into the joint), painful into the joint, and the feeling still has not come back to the toe. I can touch it with a straight pin and not feel a thing. Should it eventually go away or should I be concerned about nerve damage?

Brief Answer:
It is due to the local inflammation due to tissue injury.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the consultation at my virtual clinic!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can well realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns today and will put my best efforts to get you out of this situation.

It is all due to the local inflammation due to injury. You will get back the sensations once the swelling and inflammation is over. I will also prefer to go for an X Ray of the foot to see any dislocation of the joint or other serious injury to the tissues involved.

Apply BenGay UltraStretch Ointment and massage gently. Apply heat and keep also keep the foot dipped in Lukewarm water with added salt in it.

Take Fioricet with codeine for pain and inflammation.
Surbex-Z once daily after breakfast.

Foot elevation will relieve edema.
Hot fomentation at night will give ease while sleeping.

If you can spare some time, upload pictures of the foot to see if there is need for some special care of the wound and to see the chances of infection.

Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have further health concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you with expert opinion.
