Brief Answer:
hemorrhoids

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.

I saw your message. Your symptoms suggest that you are having hemorrhoids.
For now you can use Xylocaine gel for local application whenever it is painful.
You can consult a surgeon and get it examined, so that they can differentiate degree of hemorrhoids. Treatment for hemorrhoids depends on degree of hemorrhoids.

How far might the gel help? Is it generally healed on its own? How common is it?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank your for follow up.

Xylocaine gel for help you only for some extent. Hemorrhoids (piles) don't heal by themselves, as i said it depends on degree of hemorhhoids like internal and external . Hemorhoids are common in most of the individuals. hemorrhoids can be due to weak veins, straining during defecation, Obesity, sneezing excessively etc.Don't get scared it is easily treatable. Take high fibre diet, drink plenty of water to avoid painful defecation.

Get back to me if any query.

If the gel helps to only some extent what else I might be required to do? Also there is no bleeding and pain is not a lot. How long it might take to heal. Is medicine enough to cure? When should I see doctor?

Brief Answer:
meet your doctor asap

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for follow up.

As i said there is no conservative treatment for hemorrhoids. You have to meet a surgeon and get it examined. Only after clinical examination they can decide on treatment. Xylocaine gel is just temporary relief.
You can meet your doctor as soon as possible.
Do not delay.

Dr vSK
