Question: I fell down my basement stairs a couple of weeks ago and went to the emergency room to get checked out. I did not break anything, but noticed a few days later that my elbow was sore. Two weeks later and it's still tender and sore. Is this normal and how long does it take to heal.

Brief Answer:
Need not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM forum.

I understand your concern.
I guess you had an x-ray done and it was normal.
If you have no fever, and the area is not swollen/reddish/hot to touch, this need not be worried much-just indicate minor contusion(otherwise, this indicates infection and needs antibiotic treatment).

You can take simple analgesics like ibuprofen 400mg three times daily, after food(if you are not allergic to,and no history of gastric ulcer).
Also give some rest to the affected elbow, along with passive exercise.
The pain will come down in 3-5 days.

If this does not help to relieve the pain in 2 days, kindly see an orthopedist,as this will need a more detailed evaluation, and management accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing for a faster cure.
Thank you.

They only took an x-ray of my lower back. I didn't notice elbow pain until a couple of days later. The fall took ace on Labor day weekend.

Brief Answer:
Use analgesics and monitor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

Since the pain came only after a few days, there will be no any significant bone injury(any such injury will cause instantaneous swelling and pain).

So,as I told earlier, you can take analgesics for few days.
Only if it persist or recur after 5 days of analgesics, we need go for x ray and further orthopedic opinion.

Take care,
Thank you.
