Question: Hello Doctor,

for the last two days I am having pain at the tip of Penis and unable to pull back the skin as well. have been applying ice cube at the tip to mitigate pain and since I found Soframycin in my first aid kit, I thought of applying on the area. Please advise if it's anything serious to worry.

Brief Answer:
balanitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through the query and the pictures.
Based on the pictures I feel it is balanitis.

I would suggest you to Avoid soaps when inflammation is present. You can use a moisturising cream or ointment (an emollient) to clean instead of soap.Use lukewarm water to clean your penis and then dry gently and salt baths are soothing whilst treatment takes effect.

Rather than soframycin, I would have asked for neosporin ointment. If it persists after 5 days then I would exclude bacterial cause. Which is not the commonest cause of it.
Most common cause is Candida infection (yeast infection). The treatment consist is using an anti -fungal cream -- Clotrimazole topical cream applied twice a day for 10-14 days. You need valid prescription for this.

Hope this helps
Take care

Thanks Doc.

Much Appreciated.

Forgot to mention one more thought:

I was on an antibiotic from Tuesday evening prescribed for skin rashes - Cefadur 500mg to be taken thrice a day AND Tab Levocet to be taken twice a day.

Not sure if this medicine is a cause for the pain, as post getting on antibiotic on Tuesday, I saw this pain from wednesday morning onwards.

Please advise if I need to continue with this medication assuming if this is not the cause for concern.
