default
Posted on Mon, 25 Jul 2016
Question: I have had a top of the head and neck ache and stiffness that I thought might be Lyme related as I had a tick bite but after nearly 3 weeks of doxycline It remains. Not sure what it is from or what I should do. Should I switch to amoxicillan (not spelled correctly ) . Not sure whether this could be sinus or not. Test for Lyme antibodies came back negative. No fever etc.

Brief Answer:
Further tests to determine why you still have the pain;otc painkillers take

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

Let me recapitalize your case:
- persisting top of head and neck ache and stiffness
- tick bite 3 weeks ago
- already took doxycyclin for Lyme disease

To my opinion, if test of Lyme was negative, then, the pain and stiffness you feel on top of your head and neck is related to spondyloarthrosis (arthritis of vertebral colon of neck area).

Doxycycline and amoxycyllin are antibiotics. They will fight infection, not the pain.
You can take OTC pain killers orally, take muscle relaxant for the stiffness, multivitamin and glucosamine supplement.

If still no improvement, then your physician should be further consulted as you might need further examinations: x-ray of spinal cord (neck area); sinuses; measure your blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Hope it was of help!
