Question: What is the most effective way to eliminate an obsessive thought? In my case because of a traumatic event 28 years ago, it is a fear of not being able to sleep, even though I sleep fine.

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Obsessive thoughts can be very difficult to control, as you well know. Medications can be helpful. Increasing your antidepressant to the maximum dose will be necessary. This is the most helpful thing on the medication front.

The best way to help control your thinking is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This type of therapy focuses on learning to live with and eventually control automatic negative thoughts or obsessions. I would seek out a qualified CBT therapist in your area.
