Suggest Treatment For Muscle Cramps And Involuntary Jerks Of Hands And Forearm

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Sep 2014
Question: I have been experiencing painful leg ramps and XXXXXXX horses at night. In the daytime, my forearms and hands cramp up, and I experience involuntary jerks of the hands, fingers, and forearm; sometimes causing me to pitch whatever I am holding in my hand. Its been worse lately--become debilitating. Ive had several back surgeries, the last one on 07/10; recently recovered from osteomyelitis at T9-T11 and possibly T12. Hospitalized for 11 days, given Vancomycin 1250mg every 12 hrs (began at the hospital), then sent home with a PICC Line and home health nurse every am. Son administered at night. Was on this dose for almost 8 wks. Also out of clonazepam for 5-6 days. ive experienced this before, but nothing this serious or painful.

Brief Answer:
Can be fluid and electrolyte imbalance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Muscle cramps most of the time occur for no known reason, and they're harmless.
These are common after a long standing illness or weakness.
Sometimes, it can be due to dehydration, muscle fatigue or electrolyte abnormalities. It is better to drink sufficient fluid and also see that your intake of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium ) is sufficient. You can drink Oralyte for this.
You can also start taking Vitamin B12 supplements for few weeks and get muscle relaxants like Cataflam prescribed from your physician.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
