Suggest Treatment For Migraine, Muscle Spasms And Tightness In Chest Area

Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: Hi and thank you for your time and expertise. I am a 49 year old active female. I am 5'5" and weight around 139#. I exorcise regularly and take the following meds: allergy meds as needed for environmental and food allergies (I am allergic to corn so mindful eating is a must), bioidentical hormone creme is the only prescription
taken daily, Migraine meds if needed (usually from a corn exposure from the multitude of corn derivatives).

I had a migraine on Friday more than likely from corn exposure while eating out too much during travel recently. Since Saturday I have had some issues with muscle spasm or tightening from my chest area, lower esophagus i believe, and definitely the diaphragm (this I know bc I have had this sx before during and allergy attack). I am not sure if I am just having some muscle spasm or it is allergy related. I Prefer not to go to the doctor if it is not really necessary bc I believe lifestyle can address many issues. However, I realize that there are times when a medical expert is most valuable. Just not sure what I need right now. Any suggestions?

Not a smoker and no cough or congestion. Feels tighter than normal around ribs and I am working just a little harder to breath. No offense, but I don't show any signs of infection that I am aware of. Also feels tighter in chest area perhaps along the GI track. Swallowing solid foods are harder to get down. Never had an issue like that particularly. I guess it starts to spasm when food gets past my throat.
Overall, I am healthy and active.

Also, it started about Friday. I did have an issue with a back spasm/Charlie horse near my left shoulder blade a few weeks ago that I have been working through. I continues cardio after a week, but refrained from any weight lifting for 3 weeks bc of the pain.

I see that you are an orthopedic specialist. How Wonderful! I have a question that you might be able to answer pertaining to these spasms. I have a benign lipoma on my lower left breast positioned down deep near the bone. I have opted to leave it alone because it is benign. I was wondering if it could it possibly be causing back and rib muscle spasms some how? The initial spasm in the Back is located behind the area of the lipoma in the breast (closer to the back not the breast of course). Just a thought, but probably unrelated I realize.

Brief Answer:
Spasm can be due to lack of salt

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can assure you that it is not due to lipoma. After studying your case I think that most probably you are having these spasm due to lack of salt and calcium in your body. I have following suggestions for you.
1. increase salt in your diet. Take juice with salt.
2.take calcium and vitamin D 3 daily. This will increase your muscle strength.
3. Avoid extreme cold temperature.
I hope these steps will improve these spasm. Let me know if there is any other followup questions. .
Thanks
