Suggest Treatment For Lymph Nodes In The Collarbone

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: I had throat pain about a week ago and if has gone away I noticed the glands were swollen under my jaw, went to the doctor and all blood work came back normal, chest x-ray came back normal. I went back again because I was having night sweats which have also stopped as I found it was due ibuprofen and thick blankets. I am schedule to see an ENT but I am so worried and can not stop thinking that there is a serious problem. Just last night I found a lymph node near my collar bone which went un-noticed. Should I be worried as my symptoms have gotten better then worst?

Brief Answer:
Dont worry; take antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
From your history, it seems you had a throat infection which somewhat persisted leading to enlarged lymph nodes or glands. You had not taken any antibiotics. Bacterial causes are most common for throat infection, hence a course of antibiotics should be effective.
You are scheduled to see an ENT specialist and he/she could help you with further management. Or for such patients, I would suggest antibiotics like coamoxyclav for 5days, warm gargling alongwith might be useful. Avoidance of chilled or cold food and beverages is also important.
You can consult the above with your treating or family doctor.
Dont worry. It does not seem much serious.

Hope this was useful.
