Question: My grandson was diagnosed with lyme disease thru a blood test. He does not remember being bitten by a tick. Can they fall off by themselves after they bite you? I thought you had to remove them with a tweezer. I remember this as a youngster(70 yrs. ago) when we lived in the country. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Few hours to few weeks

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns.

Ticks can stay attached for a varying interval of time depending on its size. Small ticks can stay attached for only a few hours while the large one can stay attached for up to few weeks and then drop off eventually.

I hope I answered your question.
