Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain While Having Vitamin D3 Deficiency

Posted on Tue, 28 Jun 2016
Question: Hello,

I am 37 year old man. i have been suffering from low back pain for 14 years. Recently i have been detected vitamin d3 deficient during the blood and other test conducted for the treatment of low back pain in March,2016. My vitamin d3 level was found 10.8 ng/ml as per 25Hydroxy (OH)Vit D. Doctor has observed that deficiency of vitamin d3 may be the main cause of my low back problems and other bone related problems for the last 14 years which have been detected recently. As per doctor advise i have taken vitamind3 must 60000 I.U. since March,16 to till date. I have conducted vitamin d3 test again and level was found 14.3 ng/ml. In the above mentioned context i have few queries-
1. Whether my low back pain was due to deficiency of vitamin d3?
2. Whether vitamin d3 must 60000 I.U. is sufficient for me looking the slow recovery?
3. If yes, what course of medicine i may be prescribed for early recovery and what would be the exact dose of vitamin d3 in my case?
4. Whether i should consult an orthopaedic doctor or general physician?
Waiting for your valuable advice.

Regards,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Back pain can be due to D3 deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
1. Vitamin D3 deficiency can cause a persistent back pain. It also causes generalized weakness and fatigue. The pain can be aggravated by weak muscles due to lack of regular exercise.
2. The dose that you have been given is the standard dose. Higher dose can cause toxicity. It is better to have milk rich products and have sun exposure with regular exercise.
3. Higher dose is nor recommended.
4. You can consult an orthopedician for a direct examination and further treatment.
I hope this answers your query.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions. I wish to further inform you that whenever i try to exercise i feel great body pain and sometimes giddiness which force me to stop exercising. I am very anxious to see such kind of response of my body. Pl. suggest me which kind of exercise would suit me or whether i should wait for sometimes so that my vitamin d3 level may go up and this may help me in exercise in due course. Pl. give me your valuable suggestion.

The body pain is due to Vitamin D3 deficiency.

The body pain and giddiness that you have is related to vitamin D3 deficiency but usually the pain gradually subsides after you start exercising.
