Question: Hi
My son birth weight was 2.6 kg and now he is 5 months old and weight is 6 kg
As my milk was not sufficient for him so he was on dairy milk - Amul
On 2 Aug ( 4 month and wt was 5.8 kg )
he was given Nusobee because of loose stool by doctor and advised for 5-7 days.
He used to finish one tin in 2 days
And in 1 week he was looking very plum and fluffy baby and earlier he used to look tiny and lean so we thought to continue same for a month and now he looks very healthy and fluffy as if he is 7-8 month baby
And we did his weight on 5 month he is only 6kg that means only 200 grams in 1 month.
Please advice
as he is only 6 kg then why he looks so big and chubby
Is everything alrite with him and when his chubbiness will go and how to increase his weight.

Brief Answer:
Nusobee need not be continue - shift over to his regular milk

Detailed Answer:
HI.. I understand your concern. Nusobee need not be given continuously like this.

My suggestions and possibilities -

1. 80% of the body weight is water and during the episode of loose stools, he would have lost weight considerably and then it would have been measured as 5.8 kg. After recovering from this loose stools, he might have recovered his weight and when compared to his state during loose stools, he might be looking plump now. So do not worry about this.

2. Either the initial weight one month back should have be spuriously high or the current weight should have been spuriously low. I am telling this because you are looking at the kid and saying that he has visibly gained weight.

He was not gaining good weight since birth
From 200 - 700 was maximum weight he gained for a month.
And when we gave him nusobee it seemed to us that he is gaining weight . And he is taking almost 4 tins of nusobee per week.

I dont understand and worried then why he looks so chubby and when we carry him we feel that he is very light and weight is also less

And his milk intake is almost 150 ml hourly

Brief Answer:
He is now catching up in his growth - but still he is less than 5th centile

Detailed Answer:
Hi....all these days he was less in weight when compared to his age. Even now his 6 kilos weight when compared to his age of 5 months is falling less than 5th centile which is low.

I feel he has just now started catching up in his growth.

I suggest you weight for another month before assessing his catch up growth.

If he is otherwise active and playful - do not worry.

Ok
Is it normal for a 5 month baby to drink 2300-2500 ml amul milk or formula milk in a day
And will his chubbiness go away as we have started Amul milk

Brief Answer:
It is abnormal...But as she's demanding it please continue

Detailed Answer:
Hi....I agree with you. The quantity is definitely more for a 5 month old.

But as he has been underweight till now and as he's able to feed that quantity on demand I suggest you continue it.

One more reason why you should continue is because he's has started catching up in weight just now.

He might or might not lose his chubbiness. More likely that he will not lose his chubbiness.
