Suggest Treatment For Loose Stool And Fever In An Infant

Question: My baby had a cold since last Friday, was better on Monday when he had his first shots. He is 9 weeks old. He got fevers of 99, 101, and up to 103 degrees. Took him to DR, was given Amoxicillin Rx, which I did not give him..His stomach was upset, he wouldn't drink much and he couldn't settle to sleep all of last night. He seemed to be in pain every time I touched him, but no fever. Today he was not crying so much and so I gave him the Amoxicillin. A little while later he had green runny stool that was very stinky. He seems off to me..just threw up his last feeding. When he was taken to the Dr the other day, he told me not to worry. Should I be concerned? Should he be taken to emergency as the Dr's office is now closed?

Brief Answer:
ORS is mainstay of treatment

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. It seems to be a case of antibiotic associated diarrhea. You need not be concerned but you need to give ORS (Oral rehydration solution) to replenish the lost water and salts. You may give some curd or yogurt as it contains beneficial bacteria and should help.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
