Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes All Over The Body

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jan 2017
Question: Hi Doctor,

I am XXXX, a 33 old male. I am having a very peculiar problem with my skin. I get rashes and itches all over my body. It develops suddenly on anywhere in my body, such as hands, legs, back. It itches a lot with red rashes. Then suddenly it goes. I have consulted with a skin specialist long ago and he told me that it is a case of Urticaria. He advised me to take levocetrizine tablets such as LCZ everyday before bed. When i take the tablet, the next day i dont feel any itches or rashes but if i discotinue it for 2 days consecutively then next day again the rashes and itches get over my body parts. He said that it is not curable and you have to take this medicine for life untill it cures itself. Please suggest what to do.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be urticaria, undergo certain tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.
You seem to be suffering from urticaria and your doctor is right in saying that antiallergic like tablet levocetrizine needs to be continued for a long duration.
It has been seen that urticaria usually resolves in 6 months to 1 year in maximum patients but in some it might take 5-10 years to resolve.
It has many causes and you need to rule the causes.
If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to undergo certain tests to find out the cause.
These are complete blood count, absolute eosinophil count, thyroid function tests and Anti TPO, serum IgE levels, urinalysis and stool examination to rule out ova and cysts.
Moreover you should continue levocetrizine for a long duration as irregular treatment will make it more difficult to control and levocetrizine doesn't have much side effects.
