Suggest Treatment For Itchy Knees And Swelling On The Feet While On Lisinopril

Question: I take 10mg Lisinopril daily. I am visiting my sister and am away from home. I have type II diabetes and diagnosed with atrial flutter.

For the last 3 days my left leg below the knee got very itchy, became quite red-inflamed looking and swelled significantly accompanied with moderate deeper than surface, somewhat burning pain. I applied 1% hydrocortisone cream the last two days. Very slight improvement might have occurred. Right leg and foot are normal.

I read in a Health-line article about Lisinopril that Lisinopril can cause swelling of the legs (and other body parts) and hives and that this could be cause for serious concern. On such skimpy "data" do you have any advice to offer?

e-mail is not available to me here. If possible you can text me at 307-254-3202. Won't be able to access e-mail at the below e-mail address until tomorrow night, March, 16. Would like something sooner if possible. Thank you for your attention to my situation.

Brief Answer:
It is not because of Lisinopril

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome.
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Lisinopril generally does not cause leg swelling or itching as you are telling. It could be inflammation or infection & needs further evaluation.
Kindly see your doctor for physical examination of the leg.
Continue Lisinopril, it is not the culprit.
Thanks & take care
