Suggest Treatment For Irritation In Penis

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: hello, i have been experiencing irritation to my penis head (meatus) for about 2 months now. it has been inflamed or irritated and i can't seem to find the cause. i do recall i used a different type of body soap for awhile but never noticed irritation until i finished the entire bottle. i am also uncut and do dry the foreskin after showers. i have been to the doctor to get tested for std's and all results came back ok. i have set up an appointment with an urologist and he's told me to just use hydrocortisone creme for 2 weeks and come back if it hasnt cleared. i had to stop using the hydrocortisone creme. i have no pain when i urinate and no burning. so no symptoms whatsoever other than my penis looking like a tomato =/ the picture i supplied i have applied some regular vaseline to help with the redness.

i have spoken to a doctor on here a few days ago and he described it as balanitis
so he suggested i take ampicilin for 10 days and apply neosporin
i have done that now and still doesnt seem to get better.
and now these little red bu,bs have appeared on the head of my penis and i have no idea whats going on could somone please help.

Brief Answer:
engorged tissue and red spots part of balanitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and clear photographs.
To recapitulate: Male/24 - irritation of meatus months and unable to find the cause - different type of body soap but never noticed the irritation until the bottle was finished - no STDs - uncircumcised - clean well - Urologist told hydrocortisone cream - stopped - no symptoms now other than the penis looking like tomato - our Doctor suggested balanitis, took Ampicillin and applied Neosporin for 10 days - read your discussion with our panelist) - now little red spots as seen in the pictures ...

From the pictures and the history you have provided, your main problem is the swollen outer part of urethra. Glans looked fine in the initial pictures.
The bulbous appearance of the urethral opening as seen in the pictures is continuous with the frenulum. This part has the expansible tissues underneath and once engorged the appearance can remain the same as is seen in the pictures and is normal. This is not any disease or disorder.

About the red spots that appeared recently:
Did you do masturbation or so?
Or over-cleaned or rubbed or so?
As there may not be any other reason as you had no sexual exposure recently.

I would advise you the following:
Clean the penis with plain water and keep it dry.
Apply Solution Povidone iodine locally times a day.
Avoid tight underwear and pants.
Avoid hot and humid atmosphere.
Take multivitamins with Lycopene as it strengthens the skin well.
Keep under observation and give me feedback within a few days and post fresh picture.
Balanitis is inflammation of the glans and can be due to variety of reasons.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

hello doctor thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

to further help you, i would say i do over clean a bit.
after i use the restroom i do get a piece of tissue to clean the area and keep urine away from the under skin and help dry.
i have been going into the steam room/ sauna after a gym session but I'm not sure if that would cause an issue as i shower immediately after.
i do wear boxer briefs and majority of my day i am sitting at a desk as i work at an office.
i have not masturbated or had any sex since I've had this issue as I'm afraid to.
i have noticed at night i will have erections and its about almost every night. I'm not sure if theres a blood flow issue thats causing it due to it being in the middle of my sleep.

is there anything you could advise me to do while I'm still taking the ampicillin for the balanitis?

Have as much modulation as possible to avoid the development of raised temperature as we already discussed and this will help in complete recovery.
Avoid steam/sauna for the time being and please follow rest of the things we already discussed.

thank you doctor,

i have already been taking ampicillin for 10 days
should i continue?
also should i stop going to the gym until I'm fully healed, or just stop entering the sauna. i tend to go about 5 days a week.
my other concern is could a change in diet factor into all this.
recently my work schedule has been a been hectic that I've stopped eating home cooked healthy meals and started going to fast food places.

Brief Answer:
As explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Stop ampicillin after 10 days of course.
You can go to gym but use loose airy clothes.
No sauna.
No changes in diet, fast food should be used only in emergency when you are hungry and do not have home made food

I hope this helps you.
