Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Abdominal Pain

Question: I am 69 years old, in relatively good health except for some orthopedic problems I am taking care of. A week or so ago, I began to have urgent need to have bowel movements, at inopertune times. that seems to be gone now, but in the past few days I have had extreme stomach pain that comes and goes. Don't feel like eating anything, or drinking water either. I have feeling of bloating, gas, and small burps now and then. Today the stomach pain has lessened, but still touchy stomach as I call it. No vomiting. Have had gallbladder out, and blood work is all okay. Urinalysis is fine. During the night, I woke up with a bad pain in my right upper back, that disappated and I'm wondering if I slept wrong. I have scoliosis that bothers me in that same area a lot. What do you think? I am going to have an abdominal ultrasound and colonoscopy with scope at the other end to see about ulcers, etc.

I woke up this morning and felt bloated...sat in my chair for an hour or so, then felt I needed to use the bathroom. Went and it was loose, not runny. Feel a little better now. Have been eating nothing but soda crackers, it seems to help. Pain is just a stomach ache, no particular area. Feels "touchy". I don't have diabetes, take small atenolol, one omeprazole, and potassium every day. B/P runs around 126/74 most of the time...higher at Dr. office. "White coat syndrome" I think. I am being scheduled for an abdominal ultrasound. I am scared out of my mind. I usually feel good, and right now, I feel terrible.

Brief Answer:
Most probably maldigestion

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back with the answers. You absolutely need not to worry. Sometimes maldigestion occurs which can result in such symptoms. abdominal ultrasound would be a good step to check the status of abdominal viscera. If i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following things:

- sucralfate suspension thrice a day for 10 days
- take small frequent meals.
- take 30-45 mins walk/exercise daily in the evening. It will make you fresh, healthy and is good for digestion.
- Don't lie down immediately after taking meal
- Eat a diet rich in fiber, especially from fruits and vegetables

> AVOID:
fatty & oily food.
spices
heavy meals at night
carbonated & caffeine drinks
chocolates

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
